Hello World!!!

It’s me Kai and this is my first blog entry. The purpose of the blog is to record the process of my becoming a web developer. Along the way, I’m sure that I will include a bunch of stuff in between.

As I walk this path to become a coder and I plan to have fun. I dabble in many things (religion, philosophy, yoga, art, technology and science to name a few) and try to do only things that stimulate me cerebrally. For now, I have the coding bug. Or maybe it’s a pseudo bug. At anyrate, I’m off to getting my next fix.

I am self taught, learning through a booked title “Learn Ruby the Hard Way” and using a tutorial by Michael Hartl. The tutorial is very comprehensive and covers most of the processes and tools needed for learning to become a full stack developer.

I am learning to code in a language called Ruby. It’s really popular right now and I chose it over my first choice (which was Python) because there seemed to be more support in the community for it. I have attended mad Meetups, workshops, conferences and even a hackathon - of which my team and I won first place. Totally, an amazing experience! For newbies thinking if you should participate in hackathons, I say do it. Just dive right in, there are many roles (ie jobs/ positions like social maven, designer, scribe, project manager) outside of coding for you to fill. Simply go and you will find your place once you get there.
